Additional Information
I intend to become a well rounded dentist with an emphasis on restorative, endodontic, fixed prosthodontic, and pediatric dentistry. It would be my eventual goal to seek an opportunity to become an owner doctor of my own practice.
Originally born in Northern Georgia, I moved to the suburbs of Minneapolis at a young age. Upon completing high school, I enrolled in University without a clear direction of what I wanted from a career. My time in undergrad allowed me the opportunity to expand my horizons by completing multiple study abroad semesters in Belgium, Cyprus, and a month in Mexico. Upon graduating with a degree in economics, I took a job as an operations business planner at Caribou Coffee. In this position, my role was to forecast and purchase all the food items sold at Caribou Coffee locations around the country. This position eventually lead to multiple promotions over the course of 7.5 years, ending in the role of Buyer. As a buyer, I negotiated contracts with suppliers, worked with cross functional teams to forecast new and current products, and supervised a team of demand planers to properly control spend and inventory. However, I found that this role did not provide the fulfillment I was seeking in a career, as I wanted something more people facing. After exploring options, I found that dentistry was without question the route I wanted to take; and after two years of taking night classes to complete prerequisites, I applied for dental school for the first time and was thankfully accepted by my instate university, the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry. I’ve used my time in dental school to soak in the knowledge from all presiding faculty and take the opportunity to seek a broad learning basis and leadership opportunities. I’ve been voted Vice President of my classes for the final two years of dental school and have expanded on this role to take on leadership positions in multiple committees including the admissions committee and student affairs committee.
