Additional Information
Hello. My name is Michelle Nichols and I am a general dentist. I am interested in a position preferably in a group setting working between 24-32 hours per week. I have worked in both private practice and public health. I would enjoy working in an environment where I am able to expand my knowledge base and learn how to use new techniques and materials. I would also like to have autonomy over treatment planning and working with the individual patient on their treatment plan. I would prefer to focus on patient care and doing quality dentistry on a day to day basis.
I have been a general dentist in Louisville, Ky for 23 years. I enjoy general dentistry because of the variety of procedures we can perform. I feel most comfortable with restorative dentistry (including composite restorations and crown and bridge), anterior endodontics, removable partial dentures, complete dentures and basic oral surgery. I enjoy building relationships with my patients and feel that one of my biggest strengths is patient education and helping people achieve and maintain the highest level of oral health possible. I have been both an owner dentist and a staff dentist in the course of my career. In both clinical settings, I was able to build a bilingual patient base due to my ability to communicate in English and Spanish. From the time I was a dental student and even now as an experienced dentist, I can say without a doubt that my patients are my best teachers.
I have been a member of the ADA, KDA and the Louisville Dental Society for 23 years. I have mentored dental assistants and have been directly in training many of them since I had my private practice. I also was able to mentor dental students who were doing their externships in our public health clinic. Another group of people I have been able to mentor were some coworkers who were dentists in Cuba and worked with us as expanded duty dental assistants. Some of these workers were able to obtain additional training and become licensed here in the United States.I also have participated in volunteer screenings at my local state fair and with the Bright Smiles, Bright Futures on the Colgate van through my local dental society. I have also been involved with Give Kids A Smile through my work in the public health clinic.
I have received my DMD in 2001 from the University of Louisville. In 2002, I completed an AEGD also at the University of Louisville. I have been a member of the American Dental Association and my state and local chapters since graduating from dental school.
