My name is Li Jen but friends and family call me Eric. I was born in Taiwan but grew up in Vancouver, Canada before moving to Seattle, where I completed my undergraduate degree at UW and spent most of my dental career in the Snohomish county. I have been working in Pacific Dental Services for almost five years, and during three of these years I was practicing in the office as the sole provider and owner of Marysville Modern Dentistry. Recently I decided to step down as the owner in order to explore opportunities in the world of private practice. My goal is to find an office where I can further connect with the local community and continue to grow both as a clinician and office operator by providing good quality dentistry and productive service while creating laughter with patients.During my time in Pacific Dental Services I have become proficient with both CEREC and traditional crowns, composite restorations, simple and surgical extractions with socket preservation. Emergency pulpotomy and anterior RCT are also frequent procedures we provide in Marysville. During summer of 2022 I became proficient with guided implant placement and I am experienced with implant supported overdenture fabrication. Periodontal disease is prevalent in this region as well, and I have excelled in case acceptance and retention for SRP and periodontal recalls. As an owner I also learned how to manage and operate a general dental office while growing an in-house oral surgery, endodontics, and periodontal program in which specialists perform full mouth extractions, RCTs, osseous surgeries, and soft tissue grafts. My experience as a solo practitioner will also keep the office operational when other providers are not available.I have decided to explore long term opportunities in private practice because, humbly, I would like my growth as a dentist to be better aligned with my colleagues outside the DSO environment. I aim to be part of a dental office that provides a productive and fun environment for both patients and providers. Although I am searching for an associateship currently, I am open to potential partnership/buy-in opportunities at the office I will be working at in the future. I believe my experience in a highly demanding space during the past few years and my desire to create a positive environment will have a beneficial humble impact on your office in the future.
Having lived in Taiwan, Canada, and the US, I was very fortunate to be exposed to people from different cultures and backgrounds, and this exposure allowed me to enjoy meeting new people and listening to their life stories. By connecting people from different backgrounds, I am always amazed by the friendships, professional relationships, and unexpected events that follow. As someone who loves to drive and the automotive culture, I enjoy organizing weekend drives into the PNW mountains for my fellow "gearheads" and grow this community by helping people make connections outside of their work. Because of this community, I was blessed to have met numerous business owners outside the world of dentistry, who helped me to see dentistry from a different perspective. Cars, road trips, building this community, constitute a good part of my life outside of dentistry.Besides cruising the mountains of the Pacific Northwest (PNW), photography is another part of my life when not being a dentist. I am a strong believer that a picture is worth a thousand words; besides using a camera to convey to patients what I am seeing in their mouth, I also use a camera to express my thoughts and ideas that cannot be conveyed by words outside of work. Some moments also happen only for an instance, and I aim to capture those moments with a photo. As an immigrant to both Canada and the US, I am also well involved with the Taiwanese community here in the PNW. On certain weekends or traditional holidays, I would help local Taiwanese organizations to host gatherings for newcomers to connect and make friends. It was not easy for my parents to become established here when they moved to a foreign world, and I hope to help those who followed my family's footstep to have a smoother transition.
- Experienced and skilled in CEREC crowns, traditional zirconia crowns/bridges, composite restorations, extraction of #2-31 with or without periodontal involvement, socket preservation, pulpotomy, anterior root canal therapy, complete dentures/complete overdenture, partial denture, scaling and root planning, guided implant placement/implant crown fabrication.
- Experienced in solo dental office management and operation, referring and building in house specialty program including periodontology, oral surgery, and endodontics, human resource management, resolving patient billing disputes, training associate doctors, facilitating equipment repairs, managing lab and supply costs.
- Trained and Experienced with Nobel Guided Implant System: Open to learn other implant systems.
- Highly proficient with CEREC crown preparation, design, processing, placement, utilization. Currently using CEREC for nightguard and implant surgical guide fabrication as well.
- Highly experienced in urgent dental treatments: Much of the dental emergencies in Marysville involve a painful tooth affected by irreversible pulpitis or pulpal necrosis. Although we have an in-house Endodontist, the specialist is on-site only once or twice a month. Therefore, we would perform pulpotomy on symptomatic teeth frequently. Unrestorable abscessed tooth with multi-wall defect is also common, so extraction followed by bonegraft placement by general dentist is performed often.
- Very successful periodontal program: I have established a very successful periodontal program in Marysville where SRP acceptance rate is high accompanied by great patient retention rate with 3months periodontal maintenance. One of my passions in dentistry is to help patients avoid tooth loss and subsequent need for complete dentures by educating, addressing and improving their oral hygiene
- Bilingual in English and Mandarin; fluent in conversation; competent in reading; Many non-English speaking patients from Taiwan, China, and Hong Kong have been driving to Marysville to seek dental care from the greater Seattle area.
