Additional Information
My career objectives are to own and operate a dental practice that not only serves the community and patients, but also serves myself and my staff. My passions in dentistry encompass implant surgery and bone augmentation, and I also enjoy endodontics (excluding maxillary molars), esthetic prosthodontics, removable prosthetics, and oral surgery. My goal is to become a diplomate of the ABOI, and I am actively working to achieve said goal. To start, I completed a 300 CE hour course on implant placement (Chicago Implant Institute) and have integrated implant dentistry into my current workplace. The practice of dentistry to me is a lifelong commitment to education, improvement, and self-reflection. I strive to better myself in order to create better outcomes for my patients.
I am an avid hiker, and my wife and I enjoy birdwatching together. We love traveling, particularly for food and outdoor sight-seeing. My hobbies include playing the guitar and mandolin, cooking, baking bread, and repairing and tinkering with video games. My wife and I have two dogs and a gecko - all of which were adopted. My wife and I are currently trying to start a family, with our long-term intention being to have three children.
My practice philosophy in dentistry is focused on clinical excellence, a calm demeanor, a happy supporting staff, and patient education. I feel that the best decisions are made when patients are well informed of all possible options. Further, I dislike situations in which patients feel pressured into making treatment decisions.Regarding clinical excellence and optimization, I strive to do work that is not only aesthetic to both patient and dentist, but also to do work that will stand the test of time and enable streamlined future care. It is my opinion that dental treatment – be it a sealant, filling, crown, or implant – is simply one stop on the road in a lifetime of function. I feel that understanding that all restorations need to be replaced or changed at some point is critical. Hopefully this occurs many years down the line. Grasping this reality allows for treatment planning and preparation in such a way that enables long term success for the patient. I find an immense amount of satisfaction when I remove a 30+ year old crown due to decay and find that the preparation was conservative and clinically excellent. In those situations, I feel that the past dentist set me up for success, and I strive to do the same for whoever will replace the soon-to-be 30+ year old crowns done in my career.Regarding practice demeanor, while in dental school one of my favorite faculty had a remarkably calm and collected way in interacting with patients. It was a running joke that he was like a dental version of Bob Ross. His style of patient interaction resonated with me tremendously, and I strive to also maintain a calm manner regardless of what is going on in the day. I never want patients to feel the stress that I may be feeling, as I feel that doing so can negatively impact the patient experience. Patients typically are under stress when they come in for a dental appointment, and I like to do what I can to ease that stress and create a better experience.Regarding employees, I firmly believe that a dentist’s success is only made possible by the hard work of those they surround themselves with. Employees should have a healthy and happy workplace environment where they are free to share their opinions and are given the tools they need to succeed. I do not want a situation in which future employees of mine are weary of raising concerns. I want to have an open environment, as it is what I prefer to have as a current employee.
