Additional Information
I have always envisioned myself being a partner and/or solo owner of a dental practice. Starting with a solid foundation in an associateship, I plan to spend the beginning years of my career learning and practicing quality ‘bread and butter’ dentistry, while still continuing education to sharpen skills in treatment planning of cosmetic and prosthodontic dentistry, among others. During this time, I also plan to build a solid foundation of knowledge of office operations, practice management, and insurance. I hope to work alongside a practitioner who is interested in developing a mentorship, so that I may one day be able to go into partnership or solo ownership. I am passionate about the idea of being your local neighborhood dentist and developing long-lasting relationships with patients and their family and friends. I aspire to provide quality, comprehensive, personal care that results in the best outcomes for the patient.
My time spent as an EDDA has given me an advantage when it comes to patient care. Aside from clinical skills, I was able to learn ergonomics, patient positioning, and even the art of effective communication with the patient. I worked in a setting where I was exposed to a diverse patient population which included navigating different cultures, socioeconomic classes, and education levels. I worked with children and the elderly, as well as individuals with intellectual disabilities. As a result, in dental school I am able to place my focus on improving clinical skills and knowledge, as I didn’t have to work through the jitters of seeing my first patient.
I see myself as someone who understands the significance of constructive feedback and how to use it to learn and improve. I have always been a leader in small group settings while understanding how important it is for members of the group to share ideas also. I am open to new opinions, beliefs, and ways of thinking.
All of these characteristics I think will lead me to not only be a trusted clinician, but also colleague, coworker, and friend.
The relationship with the patient has always been central to my care philosophy. From the initial visit, I understand how important it is to build rapport by beginning to learn about the patient and their wants and desires. I am empathetic and patient; understanding that each person is an individual and requires individual care. I have always been a hard worker, having a job almost consistently since I was 15 years old. I am organized with a close attention to detail. I like to have a plan prior to each appointment, and it is not unlike me to have a sort of ‘checklist’ when planning my week. This allows me to be prepared for each person that sits in my chair and reduces frustration on the patients’ part.
