Additional Information
Plain and simple, my ultimate career objective in the field of dentistry is to partner with my husband, who is a dentist, and possibly other dentists to own at least two dental practices and provide modern, comfortable, diverse and quality dental care. In an ideal world, I would associate at a practice and then in a few years either become a partner or buy the practice. Other career objectives include participating in local and international dental community service programs, obtaining hospital privileges to offer full mouth dental rehab in the same day care unit for patients I can't treat in the dental office, and becoming certified in Invisalign, Botox and dermal fillers.
I am a patient care driven, honest and determined general dentist who understands the importance of delivering quality comprehensive dental treatment with a coherent dental team. Through my four years of practice, I'm know to demonstrate an unique chairside manner because I am personable, address patients' fears and concerns, take time to educate patients, learn about their personal lives, and share my personal dental treatments, experiences and personal life. I'm a strong believer that when providers put the patients' best interest at heart, the business will grow. Also, honesty among patients and staff members is another important characteristic I exhibit. Poor treatment outcomes, setting realistic dental treatment expectations, and discussing a staff's poor performance are not comfortable conversations to have but are essential to the integrity of the practice. Lastly, I'm extremely driven to be the best clinician I can be and understand the value of continuing education, being open-minded to other's critiques and self-critiquing my own actions and treatment outcomes. At the end of the day, I am able to lay my head down and sleep peacefully because I know I did the best of my abilities to establish a comfortable and aesthetic oral function for the patients I treatment planned and treated that day.
Touching on the above statement, I am a high energy, hardworking health care provider with the keen desire to provide quality dental care in a comfortable and fun environment. Therefore, a slower pace practice would not be a suitable fit for me because of my ball of energy. If the schedule allows, I am a strong believer in starting dental treatment at the first appointment because that makes it convenient for the patient and my hands came to work not twiddle my thumbs. During my high school years, I played basketball and our coach got us T-shirts that said, “Hard work beats talent, when talent doesn't work hard.†Even though I no longer have the t-shirt, that saying is integrated in my work ethic for life. During the work week, I spend more time with the dental staff than I do with my husband and two dogs. Therefore, it is important to make a fun work environment, but in a professional manner. In sum, I genuinely get self-gratification offering quality dental services to many patients in a memorable and unique dental setting. In my spare time, I enjoy traveling, spoiling my 2 rescued yorkshire terriers with trips to the dog park, walks and treats, and training for a half marathon with my husband.
During my first year of dental school, I was nominated by my professors for the Michael Christensen, Thomas P. Patrick and William Shelton DDS Class of 1976 scholarship. Immediately following dental school, I successfully completed a one year general practice residency at West Virginia University. During this year, I gained substantial surgical experience, treated multiple medically compromised patients, and provided full mouth dental rehab in the same day care unit at Ruby Memorial Hospital.
The following are certifications I have earned:
1. Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation
2. Advanced Cardiac Life Support
3. Administration of Nitrous Oxide/Oxygen Analgesia
4. I have held in good standing dental licensure in the following states: West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Ohio
5. DEA Licensure
