A life long learner
I was born in a small farming village in East Africa, a country called Eritrea. I was one of nine children and grew up on a farm. Life in the 1980's was challenging in East Africa due to luck of rain that claimed millions of people in the region, most notably, people remember the famine in Ethiopia. As a result of this phenomenon my father was determined that the fate of his children doesn't have to rely on a rainy season to survive; therefore, I decided a division of labor in which the younger children to attend school and the older ones help on the farm. Me being one of the younger children, was lucky to attend school with my older brother walking 12 miles every single day to attend school because that was the closest school that was available. In addition to walking the 12 miles, we also would fetch water, which was 3-4 miles away on a daily basis. In 1997, I was fortune to win a diversity visa lottery that allowed me to immigrate to the United States legally at a young age. Although this opportunity was too great to pass up, it had its own challenges. Without any language skills, financial or family support, the young Fesaha had to man up and face all of those challenges. For the first few years during my arrival, life was challenging in all aspects of it, from food to social life to home sick and missing my family and so on. Eventually, I was able to meet all of those challenges by graduating with a degree in Electrical Engineering. After graduation, I was fortunate enough to secure a job with Motorola as a product Engineer. This new employment provided me with Medical and Dental insurance, as a result of this I had my first dental visit at age 25. This experience changed my life, and I decided to attend dental school against all odds. This meant I couldn't see my family for an extended period of time. In fact I saw my mother at my dental School graduation 15 years after I left home.
I am a hardworking and highly motivated individual, who is patient-care centered. Because of my interesting background and up bringing, I have a unique way of engaging people. I have great relationships with patients because I believe that the best way to build a practice is to build trust and relationships with and engage and show interest in their lives. I am passionate about dentistry, and I invest hundreds of hours of CE improving my knowledge. As a result, I have had over 100 hours of CE at Spear Education on Facially Generated Treatment planning to further my skill set and treatment plan options.
Before entering the field of dentistry, I earned a degree in Electrical Engineering from Arizona State University and worked as a Product Engineer for over three years at Motorola/Freescale Semiconductor, which has given me a fundamental understanding of business principles and kin to have a high level of customer service.
I strongly believe that my perpetually positive attitude, enthusiasm, valuable background and work experience, excellent communication skills, including the ability to fluently speak Amharic and Tigrigna (Ethiopian and Eritrean languages respectively where the Dallas area is home to over 80,000 people) will allow me to be an asset to serve communities of all walks of life.
